I've seen it all. I've seen customers that have pulled into a "professional detail shop" and they will charge bucko-bucks to get a completely unprofessional buff.
I want to give you a scenario:
You go to your local detail shop and want your car buffed. To save time, Company ABC will wash the car and do a "1-stage buff." 1-stage meaning they buff the entire car with only 1 compound.
There are so many things wrong with this scenario I cringe! It doesn't even give you a fraction of the benefits to your paint, and that's what buffing is supposed to be all about. Plus, they charge you too much for what you get. 1-Stage buffing will probably put swirls in your vehicle (especially darker color vehicles). Swirls are explained below, but here is a picture that shows you what swirls are. I bet you have seen them!

Yes, that is from someone buffing that Nissan.
Don't get me wrong; there are other fellow detailers out there that take pride in doing the job right. But just like any other profession, there are good and bad detailers; and there are those that are exceptional (like me!).
You can trust me. We take pride in our work. I would rather close my business than do sloppy work.
Shamrocks Buff N' Shine will Rejuvenate your paint. You will be ecstatic when you see completed. And most importantly it protects your vehicle's paint for years. That's right, years. I'm not telling you to buff every year. It is not necessary when done correctly.
Step 1 to properly buffing your vehicle, I will wash the vehicle then dry it. While washing I will remove all the bugs and tar and keep my eye out for chips and plastic that is touching paint. Just washing your car doesn't remove all the harmful elements that are attached to the paint. There are still many harmful
elements in your paint's clearcoat:
- Salt
- Rail Dust
- Sand
- Pollutants
- Even Brake Dust
If we were to just start buffing like Company ABC in our scenario, all it would do is smash and grind all those pollutants into your clearcoat and paint. That's no good.
Solution:
Step 2: Decontaminate your vehicle.

This takes hard work and a professional eye. The picture above and below shows the before and after the decontamination process. This process removes all the harmful salt, sand, rail dust, etc... from your paint, so we can safely buff your vehicle.

Note: Just decontaminating your vehicle can slightly haze the paint on darker vehicles. So we don't want to stop here.
Onto Step 3 Re-wash your vehicle, then dry it.
Remember in step one I was finding chips and the plastic that touches the paint. Now we are ready to tape off your plastic so the buffer doesn't burn it.
Step 4 Tape off vehicle. This is important to prevent any damage the high speed-buffer can cause.
Step 5 we have 2-3 stages of buffing. The number of stages depends on the condition of paint.
First stage buff will remove:
- Spider-web scratches
- Oxidation
-
Haze
- Minor scratches
- Seal your clear coat. Putting wax or sealant on your vehicle is temporary; buffing is permanent and keeps your clearcoat sealed.
This 1-stage buff essentially corrects the paint. Below are pictures of everything I just listed.

Spider Web Scratches

Oxidation

Haze

Minor Scratch

This is what your sealed clear-coat will look like.
What is oxidation? And how does it affect my vehicle's paint? Oxidation is caused by harmful elements entering your paint's clearcoat allowing oxygen to mix with your vehicle's bare metal, causing rust. The sunlight's harmful UV rays, sand, salt, hard rain, and brake dust -- they all slowly deteriorate your paint.
Second Stage Buff is for paint that really needs special attention (but isn't necessary for paint that is in fair condition). Stage 2 will essentially repeat Stage 1.
At this point, your vehicle's paint is pretty much done, but my work is far from over.
Buffing puts swirls in cars!
Solution: Swirls are burns in the clear coat, they are completely natural and normal when buffing. Although swirls are fixable, it takes the right finesse and experience. You must do the Stage 3, the swirl removing stage.
Third Stage Buff is a wet buff. As I said, an inexperienced buffer would have trouble with this stage and it is difficult to explain the way you have to hold the buffer, the speed of the buffer, and angle. On this stage I will remove all the swirls.
There is going to be a lot of "fling" after this point. Fling is the buffing compound spraying all over your car because of the rotary buffer. It's easy to remove. Just wash the vehicle thoroughly and slowly to catch all of it.
Final Thing
Now I will actually wax your vehicle to add yet another protective layer that will last all summer.
Your Buff N' Shine will last for years.
That means after a few months when you need a simple car wash, that $7* dollar wash will bring back the shine to your paint because the Buff will have rejuvinated your paint. It really does bring your vehicle's paint back to life. Let me come out today and I'll show you!
